Obituary of Sandra Gail Carter

Sandra "Sandy" Carter, 63, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2021. Service: 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, The Bowden, 1775 Keller Pkwy, Keller, Texas. Sandy was born April 29, 1957 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Arthur Barrett and Louise Barrett. She was one of six children, she was the third, her older brother and sister were 11 and 12 years older. Then Sandy and her two other brothers came along. Her father was 54 when she was born! All of her friends thought he was her grandfather. Sandys parents split up due to the age difference and Louise later married Don Shemwell and Louise had her sixth child Shanon in 1969. Sandy stayed with her biological father and cared for him as he was in very poor health. In 1976 Sandy married David. Her mother and stepfather had put a business in Arizona and David and Sandy were able to buy into it and run it. Sandys biological father moved to Arizona with them but his health was failing so when Sandy’s stepfather and mom started a business in Texas in 1978 David and Sandy had the opportunity to move there. Sandy had their only child Andrew in 1979 and her father passed in 1980. She was very close to her father. Sandy and David continued working with her stepfather Don and they were in business together with several businesses. . In 2008 her mom’s health started failing and her stepfather had come down with dementia and Alzheimer’s, so Sandy and David moved in with them and lived with them for nine years in their home. Sandy left her job and devoted the next nine years of her life to her parents. It wasn’t easy but she was able to do it! Her mother never lost the ability of making her own decisions but she needed a lot of help with walking, bathing and she was on special diet, So Sandy was that person. She loved her mother very much and was very close to her. Survivors: Husband, David Carter; son, Andrew Carter; grandchildren, Collin Carter and Emily Campos; brother, Tony Barrett and wife Beth, Aaron Barrett, and Shanon Shemwell and wife Maria; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
