Opal Guadalupe Mendez passed away, peacefully, on January 23, 2016. Opal was born in Mound Valley, Kansas, to Amado and Eubolgia (Mejia) Leon. She married Joe Seledonio Mendez and they made their home in Chanute, Kansas. Always positive and caring for others, she retired after working many years as a CNA in Chanute's nursing homes. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church before moving to Fort Worth due to health reasons. Opal was preceded in death by her husband, four sisters, four brothers, and one grandson. Survivors: She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Leon (Gail) Mendez and Dean (Wanda) Mendez; a daughter, Judi (Ron) Wilson Brackeen; a sister, Virginia Edmonds; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; andtwo great-great grandchildren and a large extended family.
